Art Club: Lets get creative

Every Monday and Thursday from 3:10pm to 4:30pm our art club gets together and works on art projects. Each week we have a different theme. This page is dedicated to showing off students' works of art.

Week one: theme was fall

Week two: Theme was Halloween

Week three:  Remembrance day

Week five: Winter fun

Week seven: Your favorite animal

These are just a few projects of many that has been completed in our art program. This program encourages our students to be creative. While our students are provided with a theme each week it is up to the student what he or she wishes to do. They will receive suggestions on what to do and guidance to make their creative vision come a reality.

We encourage all parents view their hard work and leave their thoughts in the comment section to share.

Geo centre here we come!

The grade 4 students have just completed a unit on rocks and minerals. They have learned what a sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks and the minerals that make them up. To complete this unit we will be going to the Geo Centre on March 10th from 10-2:15pm.

In the morning we will participate in a program that the Geo Centre runs for grade 4 students. This program is called "Geo detectives" They will be give a note pad, streak plate and hand lens. They will be given a "mystery mineral" that they will be required to perform various tests to determine what mineral they have. This is a good way to finish off this lesson as they have been given an opportunity to have some hands on experience with what they have been learning in class. This will engage them and they will be able to better remember the concepts as they have worked on it with their hands.

Once they are finished with this activity they will have recess under the planets that are hung up. They will then precede to look at the rock wall and other sample of rocks they have on display. They will have a worksheet that they will have to complete. It will be a search a find. On the worksheet there will be a list of rocks they will have to find at the Geo centre. They are encouraged to work together to find all the rocks and minerals that is on display to complete the worksheet. Which will be followed by their lunch, which they will need to bring with them as it will not be provided.

To finish off their day they will watch a short film at the Geo's theatre called "Our Planet" This film will provide the students with information on how their earth was created and why volcanoes erupt. They will learn about the different types of rocks.

If any parents wishes to volunteer they may indicate on the permission slip or directly on this blog.

Skating fun February Friday 24, 2017

We are going skating at the CBS stadium for some fun exercise. We are going skating on the 24th after lunch to go skating. Parents are encouraged to join the fun with their children. To go skating your child will need a pair of skates, warm socks and a helmet that is approved for skating. Therefore a bike helmet will not be sufficient. If parents want to take their child home after the skate directly from the stadium they must sign their child out with their teacher that will have the appropriate paper work.

Skating safety for students:
  • Make sure all students are wearing ice regulated helmets at all times on the rink.
  • All students must skate in the same direction.
  • Make sure that young learners have the proper support on the ice.
